The pipeline that will carry desalinated water to Melbourne is now more than 80 per cent complete, with 69.6 km of 84 km laid. A total of 40 road and 12 waterway crossings have already been completed, including successful crossings of major roads including the Bass Highway and South Gippsland Highway with little disruption.
On the plant site, more than half of the precast panels on the reverse osmosis building have now been installed and more than three quarters of the roof panels are in place, ready for planting of the green roof. Inside the reverse osmosis building, more than 70 per cent of the racks that hold the membranes used in the desalination process have been installed and work has begun on cabling.
