Construction Update May 2010
About 1.3 million cubic metres of soil has been excavated at the plant site and the dunes being created by excavated material are taking shape. Steel structures continue to be erected for the reverse osmosis building with bracing bays completed.
Tunnel Boring Machine equipment is arriving and the two machines are being assembled to create the intake and outlet tunnels in coming months.
The majority of the pipeline and power supply easement has been fenced with about 14km of pipeline laid and 70km of the easement prepared. Installation of power infrastructure began with 3km of conduit laid.
About 2000 people are currently working on the project including 800 at the plant site and 400 on the pipeline and power supply plus designers and a range of sub-contractors.
