This section provides a summary of construction and related activities that have occurred each month. For current information on construction, works notifications and traffic advisories go to www.aquasure.com.au.
Installation of fibre optic cables has begun as part of the Victorian Desalination Project during the month of April. The cable is co-located in the same easement as the pipe and power supply and will provide important monitoring information on the pipe and power networks as well as facilitating improved broadband capability to surrounding communities.Almost 88 per cent of the pipeline which will carry the desalinated water to Melbourne is complete with 73.3 km of 84 km laid. Works on the power supply are also nearing completion, with 69 km of conduit and 70.8 km of cable in the ground. With work on the fibre optic cable now underway, rehabilitation has also begun in some areas.
Construction of the reverse osmosis (RO) building is also well advanced. More than 68 per cent of the precast panels have been erected and 366 of 430 roof panels have been installed. As a large part of the roof is now in place, works on the equipment inside of the building is ramping up. More than 40 of the 51 RO racks which hold the RO membranes have been installed and about 40 pumps installed. Electrical cabelling work has also begun inside the building, with the near completion of the building structure facilitating good progress in all weather conditions.
